  2. Be mindful of your thoughts, feelings, actions from a more neutral place.
  3. Learn to think of a better way to handle your situation.
  4. Learn how to choose the positive behaviors that are helpful instead of the more negative, self-defeating ones.
  5. Learn to integrate this into your everyday life.

Stress

Stress happens when we feel that we can’t cope with certain pressures. These pressures are highly individual and can take on many different shapes and forms, depending on who we are and where we are on our own life’s journey.

Stressful events can range from moving, especially abroad, having children, a difficult boss, difficult work conditions, divorce or separation, money worries, to fears of any kind. The expat lifestyle can add further pressures to these stresses as we find ourselves outside of our comfort zones, pressures to keep up with the perceived success of other expat arounds us and a lack of support from the usual friends and family.

The high stress levels these pressures bring can trigger in us the well-known “fight or flight” response. This response can be extremely unhelpful when not appropriate to the situation, producing negative effects on our wellbeing and health.

At One Life Coaching we can empower you to reduce your stress by changing beliefs, thoughts and behavior. You will be given different ways in which you can perceive your pressures in a less threatening light. With practical and well established exercises you can begin to look at your work and personal life in a more positive way, which in turn can give you back your self-esteem and your confidence. Slowly you will learn to manage and ultimately take away your stresses.

Anxiety

Anxiety happens when we are apprehensive of experiencing more danger in the future. The danger feared isn’t imminent and may not even be known or realistic but the anxiety it causes can lead to obsessive worry and an inability to concentrate that may affect our work, our personal life and our sleep.

Anxiety can also trigger a full-blown fight or flight response but because anxiety is an emotional response to something that hasn’t occurred there is nothing to run away from or even to fight. Anxiety leads to a buildup of tension inside our body that we have no way of releasing in our everyday lives. Our mind goes round and round, replaying possibilities and scenarios that may not be known or realistic. Anxiety can bring on very real physical symptoms such as numbness or tingling, dizziness, nausea and stomach upset, to name but a few.
